Friends at Weddings

My college friends and I attended a couple of weddings (day after the other) last week.  Since this was a first on our group (where one of us got married), we were beyond excited!  We thought of preparing big time for this since we're all the laid-back-kind-of-ladies (you know, the sneakers-slippers-shirt-pants kind of ladies).  Having made up and wear posh clothing is something we rarely do and these events serves as an excuse for us to experience it.  Haha!

I've been practicing make-up artistry for quite some time now and Tin does too on hairstyling department.  So it's a great team up!  We were supposed to go to a bar right after Car's wedding but due to Cherry's wedding the next day, we opted not to.  That was supposed to be our first time going out together at a club/bar.  We never went for that kind of gimmick back in college.  We only watched movies and eat out back then.  Most of the time we're in school, at the library for projects and assignments, at the cafeteria, AVP room, or at the org office.  We're nerds, well, sort of.  :p

I had my mom's car checked before meeting with the girls on Friday morning, which then made us all late and wasn't able to witness the wedding ceremonies at the church.  My bad.  I feel so awful about it.  I really am sorry! :(  Prepping took us a lot of time and the traffic really bites.  So we were 3 hours late and went straight to the reception.  But all was good.  We were happy to see the couple!  They're just so lovely :)

HMUA-and-all-that Day

November 2011 shoot.

--

When I was still with my previous company, I had the chance to know some of my colleagues who are into fashion, photography and make-up.  As I'm interested on the said aspects, I asked my former boss to do a collaborative photoshoot as I wanted to help a colleague whom I had the chance to work with way back in August of 2011.  Her name is  Angelyn, a college student from De La Salle College of Saint Benilde.  We get to work as talents on a TV commercial that was, unfortunately, shown only in Dubai.

Because I was so fascinated about Anj's talent and beauty, I asked her to come model for a fun shoot as I did the hair, make-up and styling while my former boss worked as the photographer.  It's much more of an ex-deal as we all are going to benefit from this shoot for our portfolios.

On the day of the shoot, we first went to a talent agency where my boss was connected.  Anj and I went for a VTR for, you know, a sideline on the industry, then we headed straight to citruSnap studio.  The studio was big.  I was expecting a small room with lights and rolled backdrops.  The studio was too spacious, it reminds me of those films or ANTM where an indoor shoot is taking place.

Days before, I coordinated with Anj and asked her to bring different kinds of clothes for the shoot.  She did brought some and I've managed to style it to look more posh.

For the first set, Bugi (the photographer) wanted beauty shots.  So I let Anj wear her tube dress just to show off her neck and shoulders.  I then applied day make-up/natural look for this look.

Due to Anj's amazing poses, Bugi and I were so hooked on shooting so many frames, in different angles and didn't realized that we're almost running out of time.  The make up that I applied next was a  darker eye shadow since I believe it would suit all the other clothes that Anj brought.

There are too many beautiful shots to choose from, that's why I'm having a hard time picking the best ones to include here on the collage.  So I'm posting a series of it.  Beautiful!  I motivated her on some points to look more edgy.  She did GREAT!  I'm a fan.  :)

For these next set of clothes, I lent Anj my yellow thing (I don't know what it is called) and my belt.  She's now like Forever 21's model.

And her last set...

I felt like Tyra Banks on this shoot.  It was great working with Anj and Bugi.

We wrapped things up and I invited Anj to have dinner at Mary Grace in Greenbelt 3.  I hope there'll be another collaborative work next time--with fashion designers involved and set designers too.  And I'm hoping I get to have the chance doing the photography itself.

Besides cooking, I also do make-up

To overcome my stress or my panic attacks, I usually dive into coloring books, doodling, or sketching (but will try painting soon).  But I recently found a new diversion: make-up artistry.

I really love colors.  That's why I find make-up to be therapeutic too.  Since I'm no longer involved in theater, I have no reason to wear loud, character make-up.  I don't have the urge to study it professionally (though I'm planning to take FX prosthesis instead since it's more challenging), but I'd want this to be sort of my sideline.  When I was in LA for this crash course on film, we were introduced to FX prosthesis which I love to this day.  That's why LOTR's make-up and prosthesis keeps me amazed.  It gave more justice that Middle Earth truly exists.  :p  Will definitely take this course seriously when I have the money and the time... sigh...

Why now?  Well, I'm a late bloomer.  I never appreciated make-up when I was in college.  But it suddenly grew on me over the years when I realized how it enhances one's beauty or make a person transform to a different character.

So for now, I have my friends as my canvasses to my make-up experiments.  Since there are so many blogs about make-up that endorses a wide range of expensive make-up items that they personally use or were sent to them for review, I'm looking for the cheapest to the way-affordable items that fits the budget of an every day Filipina.  After all, we are not blessed with competitive salaries or rich families.
